PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION FOR

AASECT Certification

AND CLINICAL CONSULTATION

Supervision is where theory meets praxis. As clinicians, we spend years in classroom settings and hours reading and writing to solidify our theoretical training. Then, we are thrust into practice, leaning into the "doing" after all of that theorizing. Supervision is how new practitioners meld these two important pursuits.

MEET YOUR SUPERVISOR

MARY-MARGARET SWEENEY, MSW, LCSW, CST

As a supervisor, I bring over 20 years of experience in the sexual and reproductive health field. I've worked in diverse roles over my career, enabling me to meet various clients in their needs and stages of life. A social worker by training, I conceptualize clients and their cases as irrevocably linked and influenced by their environments, and help my supervisees identify all the biopsychosocial aspects of a case. An obsessed reader, I will always have book suggestions for you and your clients, and believe in meeting this challenging work with both a sense of humor, and humility.

EXPLORE MY APPROACH

My theoretical orientation is primarily Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which I believe is particualrly well-suited to discussing sexual concerns. Our values arounf sex and relationships guide our actions, and benefit from thorough understanding and intention. Research continues to support the strong association between mindfulness practice and sexual functioning, which is a crucial part of my approach to my own client work. I also possess a strong pedagogical lens, having trained not just as a sex therapist, but also a sex educator, with years of curriculum development and delivery to call upon.

Whether we work together for a short time, or develop a long-term mentorship relationship, I will honor the trust you place in me, and work to grow with you.

She was highly adept at treating patients with a variety of sexual dysfunctions, which require years of experience and education that are hard to find. I knew my patients shared with Mary-Margaret would get trauma-informed, queer-competent and inclusive care. I saw my patients improve in real time under her care."
